While seating parishioners and passing the collection baskets are important functions of this ministry, it is also a ministry of hospitality, welcoming people as they arrive for Mass. Ushers also arrange for the presentation of gifts, distribute bulletins after Mass, and, when necessary, attend to the needs and comfort of the handicapped, elderly, and children.

Ushers should be familiar with the layout of the building, including location of restrooms, telephones, and lost and found items.
