Knit, Crochet & Sew Good Works Ministry
Who We Are
We are a group of parishioners that meet once a month in Father Shea Hall to sew, knit, crochet and craft items for charity. Since the year 2000 we have made an average of 550 items a year of warmth and comfort for those in need. They include fleece hats and scarves, flannel quilts, wool vests, pajamas, slacks, skirts, shawls, short sets, and a variety of the most beautifully knitted and crocheted afghans, and hat/mittens/scarf sets, booties, slippers, skirts and rugs for babies to adults. These items have found their way to local shelters and as far away as Afghanistan, whenever we hear of those in need. Our skills range from very basic to very good, and there is so much we learn from one another!
What We Do
Each workshop starts with prayer and has an afternoon session from 1 - 4 p.m. and an evening session from 6:30 - 8:30 p.m. so that as many people as possible can attend at a time that is convenient for them. We start setting up at 12 noon and start cleanup at 9pm. So be sure to drop by during those hours or come early and stay late! Please bring along a friend or family member as well. These projects are perfect for teens and preteens and we'd love to get as many young people involved as possible. Even if you have little or no sewing or crafting experience we always need cutters, sorters, pressers, etc. The times and dates are in the bulletin or you can call the numbers below for further information.
What to Bring
Bring your knitting needles and crochet hooks and take a look in your stash for any items on our wish list you may no longer need for your own projects. Note that we have twelve portable sewing machines and two overlock serger machines available for use on a first-come first-serve basis. We have an abundance of yarn, fabrics and notions needed for our next few sessions, but we are always in need of the following items for future projects: Polar Fleece, Flannel, Quilt Batting, Cotton or Cotton blend Fabric, Yarn (partial skeins OK, but full skeins are better). If you prefer to make a small monetary donation towards materials, please know that this will help us out tremendously.
